Great Studio Logos

I'm pretty sure a few of you guys are running your own production houses, i'm just curious to know if any of you have some kickass logo animations or anything to throw at the start of your films.

I've seen some awesome ones, hopefully there's somewhere i might be able to see some of yours.

I'm thinking my 3d animation degree MAY help when it comes time to design mine, but i might be underestimating the difficulty.

Does it have to be computer animated? My logo is a scan of my own handwriting. (Well, it worked for Disney).

OK, so that's not going to blow anybody's socks off. But what's more memorable, the MGM Lion or the UIP animation?

Be careful with anything that's too flashy - remember, it has to work as well on a letterhead and businesscard as it does on the big screen (yeah yeah, so green felt-tipped pen might not work so well anywhere [img]wink.gif[/img] )

I've done a bit of design in my time (believe it or not) and I find the most striking logos to be the ones that are so iconic they don't need to be redisgned every five miuntes - or even animated for that matter. IMO an animated logo says "look at me" when I would prefer to say "watch my movie". I also don't like the union rule that says actors credits must be at the start of the film (especially since few opening titles match Saul Bass' work) and I really detest Disney forcing you to skip through it's enforced trailers on their DVDs. Yes, I just want to watch the bloody film!

An over-the-top animation is like masterbation. You'll be the only one to derive pleasure from it.

Miker: I totaly agree on the logo thing. The over the top 30 second mini adverts you see now are just crap. I'd just go for a static image that you can fade in and out with a nice bit of sound if you want it.

But I was wondering where you got the union "rule" about actors names having to be at the start of the film. I haven't seen that written anywhere. I know there's some Director's Guild thing about it but nobody pays attention to that shit.

The Ring (Haven't seen it -- Horror films are boring and not scary ever)
Dark City (The original? Awesome ++, Remake -- ok)

Magnolia (Really good)
Harry Potter (Shitefest)
Fahrenheit 451 (Cool)
Brotherhood of the Wolf (haven't seen it)
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (Profane and hilarious)

I got that lot off some other forum (except the opinions [img]wink.gif[/img] ) that was discussing credits so some of it could be wrong. Feel free to add/correct/disagree.

To add some reviews:

The Ring (both remake and original are rather good)
Brotherhood of the Wolf (equisite French horror actioner based on a true story)
Underworld (pants)

IIRC Kill Bill does not have credits either - the second part does not even state the title at the beginning, as doesn' Ring Two (which is kack).

I think that's probably true about the simpler is better thing, but then again... when i'm sitting in a theatre, those big '20th Century Fox' drums really get me in the mood to see a film. I dunno where i stand on the whole thing.

I should post my logo animation when it's done, maybe you guys can tell me if i need to make it simpler.

Hey that's really cool... simple and effective.

That flickery light off to the left is distracting on the logo though. At least, i THINK it's a light from the left.
